Creating Caring Communities That Transform Lives

Hignell

My name is Doug Hignell and relationships are my passion: both with God and with people. My driving purpose centers on "creating caring communities that transform lives”, both personally and through The Hignell Companies. While it may sound simplistic, I believe God cares primarily about two things: our relationship with Him and our relationship with others. Our love for others is the clear evidence of our love for Him and this is the essence of the Gospel. Along with my ongoing role at The Hignell Companies, I also sit on the board of a non-profit that we helped create that is called Creating Caring Communities.

To live this passion out with clear intention on a daily basis I have developed guiding principles: "Living in His Presence, Resting in His Provision, Demonstrating His Kingdom”. I desire that my highest priority be seeking one thing "…that I may dwell in the house of the Lord [in His presence] all the days of my life…” (Psalms 27:4). Living in His presence means desiring that everything in my life flow from my intimacy with God, which I define as my awareness and experience of His presence in my life.

Learning to rest in His provision, the place of dependence, then flows from my intimacy with God. As a type "A”, make it happen type of guy, dependence does not come naturally. Fear and pride seem more natural expressions than dependence but my ability to trust God and His provision have increased over time.

Increased intimacy and dependence has allowed me to more naturally demonstrate the Kingdom of God both in my personal and work life as I love people in the context of relationships. The old time song that says "this little light of mine I'm going to let it shine” (Matthew 5:14-16) challenges me that demonstrating God's Kingdom should happen naturally as a result of my relationship with and dependence upon God. It is who I am and Whose I am that should primarily impact people, not just what I say.

Along with my passion and guiding principles, my primary spiritual gift is exhortation (motivating others to action) and over time this has matured into a strong desire to "father” others: to help them walk in the day-to-day experience of Father God's unconditional love and acceptance for them. My ongoing prayer, borrowed from Jack Frost's amazing book "Experiencing Father's Embrace” is:

"Father, how can I receive Your love and then give it away to the next person I meet? I want to live my life as an expression of Your love, no longer focusing on my own worldly successes, but allowing Your character to shine through me to others.”

Anyone who knows me well would say that the phrase "I love change!” is a driving force in my life. I am not satisfied with the status quo in my life or the life of others. God has gifted me with the ability to see potential in people and the heart to father them in reaching that potential, at times believing in them more than they believe in themselves. I desire to be a safe place where people can move towards becoming who they are with gentle guidance, rather than strong authority.

I have the privilege of overseeing a company that is on a journey to embody the very things I am most passionate about. The Hignell Companies is a "caring community that transforms lives”. That is why our company exists. Though profits are necessary they should not be the driving force in the life of a company that desires to demonstrate God's Kingdom. My desire is to see the presence of God come so strongly in our midst that people are deeply impacted by interacting with our company, whether as employees, clients, vendors or business partners. The Hignell Companies has provided a platform where I can combine my fathering heart with visionary leadership, modeling the faith to believe for great things. We believe that there is not an economic downturn in the Kingdom of God, so there should not be one in and through our company. Our entire Executive Team desires to see the lives of our employees, customers and local region transformed while at the same time our company prospers financially.

God is on the move and we want to partner with Him in everything we are and do!
